The SmallData Symposium 2024 has concluded, and we are excited to reflect on the event’s many scientific highlights. From specialized talks delivered by our esteemed speakers to the lively discussions between panelists and participants, this symposium offered a wealth of knowledge for all attendees.
The opening addresses by Stefan Rensing, Lutz Hein, and Frederik Wenz set the tone for the symposium, providing insight into its objectives and the integration of SmallData within both the university and medical center.
Leading experts such as Rodolphe Thiébaut (U Bordeaux), Sonja Schimmler (TU Berlin), Lisa McShane (NCI, Bethesda), and Arnoldo Frigessi (U Oslo) deepened our understanding of their research while highlighting specific small data challenges. Additionally, researchers already collaborating with our CRC, such as Jan Hasenauer (U Bonn), contributed fresh perspectives during talks and panel discussions. This was complemented by essential contributions from our CRC members such as Anna Köttgen or Frank Hutter.
Overall, not only did we hear from experts sharing their perspectives on small data challenges, but we also had the opportunity to engage with researchers, especially our doctoral students, and learn about their projects during the poster pitch tours. We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to the poster prize winners, Julia Müller, Johannes Hog, and Juliana Schneider, for delivering outstanding and insightful pitches!
We invite you to explore the abstracts for both posters and talks, which remain accessible on our symposium website. We are deeply grateful to the DFG for funding this event; and all participants for contributing to such a vibrant and enriching scientific experience. We look forward to welcoming you to our 2026 conference!
