An important aspect of research is having access to as much information as you can in order to reach the most accurate results. Unfortunately, that is not always a possibility.
In some studies, due to the nature of the researched subject or the low availability of resources such as time, money or technology, only limited data can be reasonably gathered. The relevance of these study subjects may however not be limited. They can range from rare diseases that affect only a number of patients to natural conditions or events that are technically difficult to measure, and so are rarely recorded. With so little access to information, how can we achieve a good understanding of the subject we are trying to study? Are there methods we could use to make the most out of the limited data that we can actually gather?
These are questions that the CRC SmallData is working to address.
